CASE STUDIES

What good food contact wiping looks like

Helping a sausage factory solve a linting problem

A sausage factory found their usual wipe had started linting, so their consumables provider brought Harrisons in to help. The site needed a wipe that wouldn’t lint and was absorbent enough to clean down buckets and packaging. We came to site with three products to trial. After testing, they chose the Tech 300, which matched their old wipe on price per sheet and beat it on performance.

Helping a shellfish exporter handle the demands of seafood processing

A shellfish exporter needed a wipe that could cope with the excess water that comes with seafood processing. Harrisons offered a highly absorbent solution, which the exporter trialled alongside several competing products. After it proved the best performing and most cost-effective of the lot, they moved their £15,000 a year spend across to Harrisons.

Helping one of the UK’s largest food producers upgrade on linting blue roll

One of the UK’s largest food producers, with more than 20 factories nationwide, found that cleaning conveyor belts with blue roll caused linting, used huge quantities and slowed their processes down. Harrisons trialled a low-linting, food-contact safe wipe with them, one with a much lower cost-in-use. Rolled out across site, it has given them faster, more consistent wiping and better hygiene standards throughout their operations.

Helping a baked goods manufacturer improve site hygiene

A leading baked goods manufacturer wanted to improve its site hygiene processes, reduce downtime and cut costs. Harrisons carried out a site survey and recommended food-contact safe, colour-coded wipes with the absorption capacity necessary for the large volumes of liquid involved in their cleaning process. After making the switch, they reduced their wiping costs by 10% and significantly sped up their cleaning process.

Helping a major pub chain secure supply and cut plastic

A major UK pub chain came to Harrisons looking to bolster supply security and minimise operational risk across their complex supply chain — while also reducing plastic.

With food safety and colour coding crucial to their hygiene processes, they trialled our Compostable Wipe, which ticked all their boxes. Harrisons now holds 12 weeks of stock to safeguard supply, with the wipe used nationally.

Frequently Asked Questions

They’re wipes that are safe to use on and around surfaces that touch food, so nothing from the wipe transfers into what you’re preparing. A quick way to check is to look for the food-safe certification logo (the wine glass and fork symbol), which shows a product has been approved for food contact. You’ll find these wipes in kitchens, foodservice and food production wherever hygiene really matters.

It’s worth being clear here: it’s your cleaning process that’s HACCP-compliant, not the wipe itself. What the right wipes do is make that process easier to run and easier to evidence at audit. Every wipe on this page is certified food safe, in line with food safety regulations, so you can use them with confidence in food manufacturing, commercial kitchens, catering and food prep areas.

They let you keep cleaning separated by area, surface or department, so a wipe used in one zone never finds its way into another. That keeps cross-contamination down and makes your hygiene procedures clearer and easier for the whole team to follow.

It depends on the job, and often on preference too. Some kitchens want plastic-free materials, others want a thicker, more durable wipe, and many use a mix of absorbent foodservice cloths, colour coded wipes and reusable cloths side by side. We carry a full range, so whatever your requirements, we can help you find something to match. Tell us about the tasks you’re tackling and we’ll work out the right combination with you.

A little care goes a long way: keep them clean, dry and stored away from contamination, and use your colour coding consistently so the right wipe stays with the right area. We can help you set up simple, practical routines that fit how your team already works.

Yes. Picking the right wipe for the task improves durability, cuts overuse and lowers how many you get through, which trims waste and helps your cost-in-use at the same time.

They can be a great option for plenty of foodservice tasks where you want to cut waste without losing cleaning performance. The best fit depends on the task and your waste arrangements, so we’re always happy to talk it through.

It comes down to things like absorbency, durability, any colour coding requirements and how your cleaning processes run. The easiest way is to let us review what you’re doing now, recommend options and set up a trial, so the decision is based on real results rather than guesswork.

Yes, it’s one of the areas where colour coding really earns its keep. Allergen cross-contact happens when traces move from one surface or area to another, and keeping wipes separated by colour helps stop that, so a cloth used near an allergen doesn’t end up somewhere it shouldn’t. Single-use options add another layer of protection in higher-risk areas by removing any chance of carry-over. It works best as part of your wider allergen controls, and we’re happy to help you set the wiping side of it up.

Absolutely, and we’d encourage it. We offer product trials so you can put the wipes to work in your own environment and check performance, usability and suitability before you commit to any change.
