The Harrisons story begins in Great Yarmouth, where Saul D. Harrison founds the business. In those early days, Harrisons is a broad and resourceful trading company, working across shipbreaking, rubber, scrap metals and other materials.

OUR HISTORY
Woven into the fabric of British industry
After relocating to Bow, the business begins to move in a new direction. Harrisons diversifies into textile wiping cloths — a decision that would shape the company's future for generations to come.
Following Saul’s passing, the next chapter begins as his four sons — Lionel, Bert, Alfred and Harold — take over the family business, carrying forward his entrepreneurial spirit.
Harrisons moves to Abbey Road in Stratford and installs its first industrial laundry for rags. It is a practical step forward, but also an important sign of the company’s growing focus on wiping and reprocessing.
After completing national service, Alan Harrison joins the family business alongside his cousin Seymour. Like the generations before him, Alan begins by learning the business from the inside.
By the 1970s, Harrisons was helping to introduce a new kind of cleaning product to the UK market: Johnson & Johnson’s original J-Cloth®. It would become a landmark innovation, changing the way people approached hygiene, convenience and disposable wiping.
One hundred years after Saul D. Harrison founded the business, Harrisons celebrates its centenary and makes another move — this time to Waterden Road in Hackney. It is a moment that reflects both the company’s heritage and its continued appetite for change.
Stephen Harrison takes over from his father, Alan, becoming the fourth generation to lead the family business. Under Stephen’s leadership, Harrisons continues to evolve, building on more than a century of experience while preparing for a more technical future.
With production needs growing, Harrisons moves to Romford. The site gives the company room to expand and remains its headquarters today.
Harrisons begins converting non-woven wipes in-house, starting a new chapter that would see the business become one of the UK’s leading non-woven wipe manufacturers.
Harrisons partners with Sontara®, bringing world-leading non-woven wiping technologies to the UK market. The partnership strengthens the company’s position as a specialist in high-performance wiping.
The Harrisons story continues with the acquisition of Ecotech and the launch of the company’s first range of wet wipes. More than 130 years after Saul D. Harrison founded the business, Harrisons continues to adapt, invest and develop new wiping solutions for the future.
