Frequently Asked Questions

It’s a cloth made from ultra-fine synthetic fibres, that lift and trap dirt, dust and bacteria more effectively than many traditional cleaning materials. That fine structure is what gives microfibre its cleaning power.

It depends on the task and what you’re trying to achieve. For a lot of cleaning jobs, microfibre can offer real advantages. Its ultra-fine fibres lift and trap bacteria through mechanical action, so you can reduce bacteria on a surface without relying on heavy chemical use, though it’s worth being clear this is about removing bacteria rather than tackling viruses. Reusable microfibre brings a further benefit: where you have laundry facilities available, it can be washed and used again many times, which helps cut down on waste. For some tasks, wipes made from nonwoven materials may be better.

Yes. Good-quality microfibre removes significant levels of bacteria through its mechanical cleaning action, which helps support your hygiene standards. The Chicopee®  Microfibre Light, for example, can remove up to 99.99% of microbes, whilst the Chicopee® rMicrofibre, for example, is capable of removing up to 99.97% of bacteria.

Generally speaking, yes, microfibre tends to cost more up front than an ordinary cloth. But that isn’t the whole story. Reusable microfibre that’s laundered and looked after properly can be used again and again, which brings the cost down over time. The bigger saving for many businesses is chemicals: because microfibre cleans effectively with far less product, you can cut your chemical use, which is often one of the more costly parts of a cleaning routine. We can help you work out how it’s likely to stack up for your operation.

A good-quality cloth keeps performing through many wash cycles when it’s looked after properly. How long exactly depends on the weight, how hard it’s worked and how it’s washed, which is why we’ll point you to the right product and share our laundering guidance so you get the most out of them.

Reusable microfibre is made for repeated laundering and long-term use, while disposable microfibre suits single-use jobs where you want to rule out any chance of carry-over. Lots of sites use a mix of both, depending on the area, and that’s often the smartest approach.

Definitely. Our microfibres are used across healthcare, food production and other hygiene-critical settings, including disposable options for the areas where controlling cross-contamination matters most. The right mix depends on your specific areas and procedures, and we can help you sort that out.

Only wash reusable microfibres with other microfibre cloths, as cotton and other fabrics shed lint that clogs the fibres. Use a gentle detergent at 40 to 60°C, since anything too hot can warp them, and steer clear of bleach, softeners and conditioners, which break down or coat the microscopic fibres that trap dirt and moisture. Tumble dry on the lowest heat or air dry, giving each cloth a shake first to open the fibres back up.

Yes. Our microfibres and disposable microfibres come in colour coded options, so you can keep cleaning separated by area and reduce cross-contamination, on top of the cleaning and chemical-saving benefits microfibre already brings.

Of course, that’s what we’re here for. We’ll review what you’re using now, recommend the most suitable microfibre for your processes, and send an expert to carry out a site survey with samples your team can trial, so you can see how they perform before committing to any change.
